CCC instruction encompasses intrapersonal competencies such as self-efficacy, self-regulation, and perseverance and interpersonal competencies such as conflict management, assertiveness, and empathy. This eight-part webinar series, Sustaining CCC Instruction, is a collaborative effort between KSDE and the CCC Framework.
PREPARING FOR INTRA- AND INTERPERSONAL COMPETENCY INSTRUCTION
Drs. Elise Heger, Pattie Noonan, and Amy Gaumer Erickson developed this video to describe how a school or district should prepare for implementing competency instruction. Part 1 of the 20-minute video suggests several ways to facilitate discussions among administrators, teacher leaders, and teachers to target where to begin and get educator input and buy-in. Part 2 of the video describes how to prepare our staff to participate in professional development. When we do this, it helps educator self-efficacy, or belief in themselves to learn and teach the content. The video shares several examples of things you could do in advance, such as teacher implementation and impact videos, overview videos, and exploration resources. Part 3 of the video discusses in detail how to plan competency instruction, such as identifying when and where assessments and instruction will occur. It addresses the practical details of how to get social-emotional learning (SEL) instruction to every student in a way that makes sense. This level of coordination and communication is essential to implementing and sustaining SEL efforts.
TRAINING EDUCATORS TO PROVIDE COMPETENCY INSTRUCTION AND PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES
Drs. Elise Heger, Pattie Noonan, and Amy Gaumer Erickson developed this 13-minute video to describe what constitutes high-quality professional development, using the College & Career Competency training series as an example. The first part of the video suggests using the Observation Checklist for High Quality Professional Development to understand specific indicators that should be included in teacher training. The next part of the video provides specific examples of what should be included/addressed in training to make it effective. Whatever SEL curriculum you adopt or are working with, providing high-quality training will help your staff learn, implement, and sustain efforts related to SEL instruction.
